A foundry has existed in Torpsbruk for a long time, but at the end of the 1870s a new era began, when the manufacture of locomotives and threshing machines was started. The name Torps Mekaniska Verkstads AB has been around since 1875. It became one of the country's leading manufacturers of locomotives, and the patented locomotive "Fenix" was a success. At the same time, it was one of the four largest manufacturers of threshing machines in Sweden. The manufacture of hot bulb engines began in 1910 and the engines were produced right into the 1940s. The engines name was "Ideal".
