The brothers Carl Bruce and Bernard Bruce already started manufacturing spark plug engines in Säffle in 1907, after returning home from the USA. There, the two brothers had worked with engines at various different workshops. Their business was moved to an old workshop where boats had been built. It quickly became known for its operational reliability and quality. The engines were also popular abroad. Production of hot bulb engines continued until 1972, by which time the company had produced over 10,000 engines. A well-known engine from Seffle is the 515 hp five-cylinder crude oil engine in the tugboat Tingvalla. The tug does a whopping 12 knots.
